Paddling Technique made Easy....
Kayaking is great fitness as well as an amazing way to enjoy the outdoors, get off the beach and experience the best the Jervis Bay waterway has to offer. With these few simple tips Paddling is easy for everyone and you will enjoy your next adventure with us even more.
Correct Posture is essential for good paddling and the best body position once seated is to have your legs slightly bent and your shoulders slightly in front of your hips with your back reasonably straight without being forced. Then just relax your head, shoulders and neck and you will be comfy all day. Now a lot of people think paddling is all done with the arms but that is not where you will find your most powerful muscles. Your arms are just a bridge between your torso's core muscles (abs, back and lats) which are the ones we want to engage while we paddle. Your arms are just there to put the paddle in the water and take it out again but good paddling power comes from the Torso's rotation. The only real reason your paddle should move in the water is because your shoulders are turning. Driving the body's rotation all the way from your feet means you can paddle for longer, more efficiently and with less effort.
