Leave No Tracks

Posted by SKJB Team on Saturday, March 12, 2016

One of the things I love the most about Sea Kayaking is that there are essentially no tracks.... It allows you to feel like you could have been the first person to ever paddle in a place as the water retains no memory of us passing by. THE best thing then about our work here at Sea Kayak Jervis Bay is being able to introduce people to that same feeling.

This week we had another great student group keen to get out and explore our ocean wilderness with us.

It is such a privileged to teach young adults to cherish time in the outdoors, away from gadgets and distractions and to focus on their living, breathing, changing world and all the challenges that being self sufficient in this environment throws up. We work not only on kayaking and seamanship skills but also team building and leadership.

Our young adventurers got to experience just about everything the Bay had to offer on their two day expedition. Wind and Rough water afternoons and glassy foggy mornings.

Placed together with the experience of camping at a gorgeous location and bumping into the Bay's unique wildlife along the way we hope it was an adventure that lights a spark for an appreciation of exploring where there are no tracks ;-)

Summer Sun Fun Time

Posted by SKJB Team on Sunday, January 31, 2016

It's been a massive Summer season so far here in Jervis Bay and now the School Holidays are officially over we have a quick window to reflect on how many great groups we have taken out to explore the bay over the last few months.

For some it was their first time discovering our waterway and its stunning beaches from the seat of a kayak and for others paddling with us has become a regular part of their visit to Jervis Bay and no summer would be complete without one of our adventures.

We have plenty still happening so if you have missed your chance so far this summer to get down here to unwind, get out and explore and take in a new perspective then check our Activities calendars and jump on an adventure or training program in the coming weeks and get out amoungst it!!! .... Here is what people have been saying about Sea Kayak Jervis Bay this Summer.....

Winter Wonders

Posted by SKJB Team on Sunday, July 05, 2015

Sometimes it can be hard to stay motivated to get the paddling gear on and get out the front door in Winter. Your bed is warm and extra cozy at this time of year, and the sun seems to take forever to come up and then disappears all to quickly. Here on the South Coast however you just need to remind yourself of the paradise that awaits once you push off the beach and dip your blades in the water.... soooo I thought I would put my TOP FOUR tips out there to keep you active and inspired to stay on the water this Winter Season.

No. 1 at the top of my list of motivators....... The Ocean comes alive in June,  July and August and we see a bigger variety of wildlife on our tours at this time of year. The light, colours and air is crisper and cleaner and the water just seems to be that little bit clearer (if that is actually possible in Jervis Bay) .... All the right ingredients to make for stunning photographs to capture your adventures. http://www.seakayakjervisbay.com.au/Guided_Kayaking_Tours_on_The_NSW_South_Coast

No. 2 Plan a paddling Holiday away ..... By including a Paddling Trip to one of our "Must Do" Travel destinations it will keep you motivated to get out and keep fit whilst keeping your skills sharp so you are prepared and ready to make the most of your well earned Adventure escape. http://www.seakayakjervisbay.com.au/Sea_Kayaking_Tasmanias_Wild_South_West_2015_copy

No. 3 Get the right Gear! ... Clothing will make all the difference to you enjoying your day out or being miserable because you are too cold. Even though the water temperature in and around Jervis Bay is still a toasty 17 degrees the wind chill factor is a real safety issue. Having a good set of Thermal Paddling Wear (Tops and Bottoms), a Wind Proof Jacket, Wet Suit Booties, gloves and even paddling in a Beanie and buff around your neck as I do early in the morning or later in the afternoon will see you easily able to enjoy your paddling experience with a big smile and a warm core temp so you don't miss any of the action.

No. 4 Have an inspired Paddling Buddy...... Just like making a time to meet your friend at the Gym, at Yoga class, or at your local surf break to make sure you stay motivated to get there, having paddling buddies makes all the difference. When you know people are going paddling and the weather is going to be brilliant and you just KNOW they are going to see something awesome and not shut up about it, this is a real motivator to make sure you don't suffer from FOMA (Fear of Missing Adventures). Join the SKJB Paddlers Club, Check the Calendar and book in on a 1/2 Day, Full Day or overnight Trip to keep your diary filled with chances to see amazing things, hang out with super fun people and improve your paddling skills all year round! http://www.seakayakjervisbay.com.au/Sea_Kayaking_Club_Membership

Great Waves and Demo Day Fun

Posted by SKJB Team on Sunday, June 07, 2015

We couldn't have asked for a better forecast for our Mega Surf Kayak Demo day. Swell 1-1.5m and light off shore winds ensured there was plenty of variety in the line up for paddlers to give our Aussie Made Surf Kayak Range a really solid test run. We had about a dozen paddlers and about the same amount of spectators hit Gerroa Beach near Gerringong to see these specialized Surf craft in action and to try out each model to get a feel for what the different sizes and designs really meant out on the water. The Range by Mega Surf Kayaks Australia, hand crafted by Ross Boardman of Synergy Paddlesports

These low volume, hard chined and hard railed surf kayaks with fins are all about speed and maneuverability allowing the paddler to truly use the whole face of the wave to pull all the moves, make the sections and get the most out of every ride. Whilst very different in feel to the uninitiated, with some tips, coaching and practice these boats are brilliant and massive fun in such a wide variety of surf conditions.

Yusuke and the brand new Mega Surf On Top

Based on a Paddlers height and weight and skill level, just like any piece of surf equipment, each different Kayak design can be best matched to a surfer and the type of waves they like to ride. We regularly run courses in Surf Kayaking and a test paddle of any model can be arranged at any time just by getting in touch with us at www.seakayakjervisbay.com.au

The new Mega Edge now available for test paddle

If you would like more details on the range available in Australia from Synergy Paddlesports then head to www.surfkayaks.com.au for all the specs on the different models.

Check out more photos from the Mega Surf Kayak Demo Day on our Facebook page. Like the page and keep up to date on when our next Demo Day will be happening.

Its Been a Massive Summer

Posted by SKJB Team on Thursday, April 23, 2015

Our Adventure Tours and Training Courses have been pumping this summer and we have enjoyed meeting so many brilliant people and introducing them to the magic of Sea Kayaking in and around Jervis Bay.

http://www.seakayakjervisbay.com/Discover_Jervis_Bay_Sea_Kayaking_Tour

It has been great to be on the water with our favourite repeat paddlers, SKJB club members, schools and corporate groups also with our overnight experiences and day trips, pushing and improving skills under blue sky's and the warmest water temps we have ever enjoyed over the summer season. Check out our Facebook Page for all the action!!

 https://www.facebook.com/seakayakjervisbay

We will continue to offer our JB Tours and Training programs over the cooler months too and Winter is a wonderful time to paddle. The crisp, clear days are magic and invites the wildlife to come alive ... Pods of Dolphins are more active and the Humpbacks have already been seen in the Bay.

We are also getting ready to ramp up our Winter Holiday tours with Trips departing in June, July and August to North America and Canada. There are still a couple of places left on the Alaska experience and its not to late to grab yourself a spot on this truly epic wilderness adventure.
